Michel Winterberg prefers to use interactive video and sound installations as well as animatronic elements in his artistic practice. His spectrum ranges from smaller mixed-media objects with displays and electronic components to immersive interactive video installations or audiovisual electronic music performances.
He understands the interactive dialogue as an interplay between materiality, mediality and the human being, whereby he involves himself as a participant. His focus is on the interplay between people, the environment and technology.

His work has been exhibited at ZKM Karlsruhe (DE), Ars Electronica (AT), Kunsthalle Basel, HEK (House of Electronic Arts), LISTE Art Fair Basel (CH), Frac Alsace (FR) and WRO (PL), and is held in the collections of the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, (DE) and HEK (House of Electronic Arts) in Basel, (CH).

Michel Winterberg (geb. 1972, Basel) setzt in seiner künstlerischen Praxis auf interaktive Video- und Klanginstallationen, Mixed Media und animatronische Elemente. Seine Arbeiten reichen von kleineren Objekten mit Displays und elektronischen Komponenten über immersive interaktive Videoinstallationen bis hin zu audiovisuellen Elektronikmusik-Performances. Er versteht den interaktiven Dialog als ein Wechselspiel zwischen Materialität, Medialität und dem Menschen, wobei er sich als Teilhaber einbezieht. Zentral in seiner Praxis ist eine kritische und humorvolle Auseinandersetzung mit Medientechnologie und ihrer Rolle in der Gesellschaft sowie der Beziehung zwischen Menschen, Umwelt und Technologie.

Seine Arbeiten wurden unter anderem gezeigt im ZKM Karlsruhe (DE), Ars Electronica (AT), Kunsthalle Basel, HEK (Haus der Elektronischen Künste), LISTE Art Fair Basel (CH), Frac Alsace (FR) und WRO (PL) und befinden sich in den Sammlungen des ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien in Karlsruhe, (DE) und des HEK (Haus der Elektronischen Künste) in Basel, (CH).
